Significant of Poson Full moon Poya-day

පොසොන් පොහොය දින ඇති වැදගත්කම

Poya is the full-moon of Poson (June), which is specially important to the Sri Lankan Buddhists as the day on which Emperor Asoka's son, the Arahat Mahinda thero’s, officially introduced Buddhism to the island in the 3rd century B.C.

Mihintale, the ancient royal rock; Arahat  Mahinda thero perched the first sermon to the King Devanampiyathissa who was the ruler for Sri Lanka.

On this Poson day Buddhists in all over the world to practice good qualities while commemoration of the arrival of Mihindu Maha Rahathan and establishment of Buddhism in Sri Lanka. Blessings of the Noble Triple Gem!!!

Many religious activities are organized during the poson period in Sri Lanka such as Sil campaigns, Bodhi Poojas, Dansalas, Poson devotional songs, Poson pandols and lanterns. Lot of Poson pandols and Poson Lanterns are making in Anuradhapura, Mihintale, Thanthirimale.

May the Triple Gem Bless you all... !!!
