Significant of the Duruthu Full Moon Poya day -  දුරුතු පොහොය දින විශේෂත්වය.

Today is Duruthu full moon Poya Day this is the first full moon Poya Day.

This day marks the epoch making event of the Buddha visiting Mahiyangana in the 8th month after attaining enlightenment, foreseeing conflict between two parties called [Yakka & Naga] in Sri Lanka.

According to the Mahawamsa the Naga warriors put down their weapons and other equipment and they were starting to listen the buddh’s Preaching.

Then Budha handed over a Hair Relic [Kesha Dhathu] to God Sumana Saman who had invited to settle the dispute between the above two parties. These sacred Relics have been enshrined in the Mahiyangana Stupa “Miyuguna Seya”.
