Today the day that first sermon illuminated the world

Today the day that first sermon illuminated the world

Today is an Esala Full moon poya day. Today the day Our Great Teacher stated his public ministry at the Saranatha (Baranesa) Migadaya in India.

The most prominent teaching of the Buddha’s preaching of his First Sermon, the Dhammacakkappavattana Sutta, to five ascetics thereby inaugurating his public ministry.

The Buddha, who had gained enlightenment at Gaya, was concerned with only on one thing the way to end all methods of suffering on earth. That is why he tends to discover the way of session of the suffering, and he was discovered it and preached it to public.

The noble truth of suffering

  • Birth is suffering,
  • pain of mind and body is suffering,
  • Illness is suffering,
  • association with the unpleasant (people) is suffering
  • loss of wealth and disassociation with the beloved is sufferin
  • when one does not receive what is desired is suffering
  • old age and death is suffering
  • In short, the five fold clinging to craving, attachment is suffering.
Because of the birth we have to face all kind of above pains.

Our Great Teacher has preached about two Extremes of living and he advised, to give up the two extremes of livings.

That is enjoyment of sensual pleasures and the tormenting of one’s body.

Our Great teacher discovered that the reality of the above two tracks, and he advised not to depend on it, and he invited to understand THE NOBLE EIGHTFOLD PATH which can help man to arrive at Nibbana.

Other essential things of Esala Poyaday

Nice and Meaningful Zen Stories. Towards to realization of your life

Nice and Meaningful Zen Stories. Towards to realization of your life

Tanzan and Ekido were once travelling together down a muddy road.
A heavy rain was still falling.
Coming around a bend, they met a lovely girl in a silk kimono and sash, unable to cross the intersection.

"Come on, girl," said Tanzan at once.
Lifting her in his arms, he carried her over the mud.

Ekido did not speak again until that night when they reached a lodging temple. Then he no longer could restrain himself. "We monks don't do near females," he told Tanzan, "especially not young and lovely ones. It is dangerous. Why did you do that?"

"I left the girl there," said Tanzan. "Are you still carrying her?"

About Three Person

About Three Person

There are three types of people in the world.

What three?
  1. One who is like carving on a rock,
  2. one who is like scratching on the ground,
  3. one who is like writing on the water.
What sort of person is like carving on a rock?

Imagine a certain person who is always getting angry and his anger lasts long, just as carving on a rock is not soon worn off by wind, water or lapse of time.

What sort of person is like scratching on the ground?
Imagine a certain person who is always getting angry but his anger does not last long, just as scratching on the ground is soon worn off by the wind, water and lapse of time.

And what sort of person is like writing on the water? Imagine a certain person who, even though spoken to harshly, sharply, roughly, is easily reconciled and becomes agreeable and friendly, just as writing on the water soon disappears.

May the Triple gem bless you all...!!!

The Significance of Bak full moon Poyaday - බක් පුර පසලොස්වක පොහොය දිනයේ ඇති විශේෂත්වය.

The Significance of BAK full-moon Poyaday
බක් පුර පසලොස්වක පොහොය දිනයේ ඇති විශේෂත්වය.

The Bak full moon Poyaday falls today [6th April 2012]. The Poyaday commemorates the second visit of the Buddha to Sri Lanka.

The Lord Buddha visited Sri Lanka in order to end the conflict between two Naga Kings Culodara and Mahodara, over a jewel-studded throne.

Actually, Buddhism is the first missionary religion in the history of humanity, with a universal message of Peace for all mankind. It was on Bak Full Moon Poya Day, the Buddha, visited Sri Lanka, preached his doctrine to Chulodara and Mahodara at Nagadeepa.

There is a relevant verse from the Dhammapada (verse No. 201) which comes to mind on this serene Bak Full Moon PoyaDay.

Jayam Veram Pasavathi
Dukkham Seti parajito
Upasanto Sukhamset
Hitva Jayaparajayam

[Victory breeds hatred, for the conquered is unhappy. He who has given up both victory and defeat, he, the contented, is happy.]

The message we must acquire on this Bak Full Moon Poya Day is that victory brings Hatred and the vanquished lives in Misery. One whose mind is calm, quiet and undisturbed lives happily.

May the Triple Gem Bless you....!!!
